WHERE: We have to admit, we went a bit weak at the knees for Fusion Maia. Gently caressing the creamy white sands of My Khe beach sits this luxurious hotel and spa. Only a leisurely drive from the hustle and bustle of Da Nang and the local heritage town of Hoi An, (which boasts beautiful colonial architecture and cobblestone alleys) Fusion Maia is perfectly situated for the odd day trip. But, we very much doubt you’ll want to leave these picturesque shores. With an abundance of blissful treatments on tap, it’s a wonder if you’ll have any time left for anything other than some idyllic self-indulgence. Radiating style, sophistication and layer upon layer of luxury this retreat is fit for the fussiest of Kings.
WHAT: Not only is it slap bang on the edge of the beach (of course) but every villa comes with its own private pool and courtyard garden. If that sounds good, just wait. Inside the resort and surrounded by vibrant tropical gardens is the largest spa in central Vietnam. Here sits 16 treatment rooms, beauty salons, Jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas. Wait for the best bit; all spa treatments are included in the price, so expect at least two treatments a day. Marvellous, isn’t it? Room choices vary from the pool villa, spa villa and our favourite, the beach villa; three bedrooms, a swimming pool overlooking the South China Sea and a plunge pool (well, everyone needs a plunge pool). Start the day at a leisurely pace by taking an early morning dip followed by breakfast, which did we mention, you can have at any time, absolutely anywhere? Yep. That’s right.
WHY: Pfffft. Why ever not? Apart from this resort being the place that dreams are made of, Fusion Maia has something very tasty up its (silk clad, we’re sure) sleeves. After a long and exhausting day of paddling in the crystal waters, a massage, a bit of Jacuzzi time and a manicure (we’re tired thinking about it), head to Five, the sleek and chic in-house Pan-Asian restaurant. Pull up a pew and watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen or opt to have your seafood special served on the sea view terrace. After eating, shimmy over to the Tonic Bar to sip a cocktail in the chilled out sunken lounge. Bliss.
