Selje Beach, Norway
Nestled on the remote west coast of Norway, in the heart of the fjordland, lies serene Selje. Seriously good-looking (What do you expect of a Norwegian?), its pristine sweep of Scandi-blond sand comes complete ever-so scenic sea views and a pretty little harbour for weekending boat-folk.
Way away from the hustle and bustle of Oslo life, little Selje – around 5 hours boat ride from second city Bergen – might not be typical tanning territory (though come summer it’s toasty mid-twenties) but that is precisely why we love this picture-perfect fishing village. Take a boat ride across the water to Selja Island with its Benedictine monastery ruins and windswept tramping trails.
Fresh sea air, a plate full of gravlax and untouched beach beauty – Selje has all we want from a Scandi beach experience. No wonder the sun refuses to set all summer long; we’d want to stay looking at a beach this pretty too.
