Cala Goloritzé, Sardinia
Corsica’s big sis, Sardinia, is a marvel in the midst of the Med with its tropical turquoise waters and fine sandy beaches. And proving that very good things really do come in rather small packages, the oh-so cute-and-colourful Cala Goloritzé on the island’s east coast, is our current Beach of the Week.
The stunning sandy bay of Goloritzé with its crystal-clear waves that gently lap under the grandiose granite spire as it towers towards feathery clouds will have the least snap happy of beach-goers grabbing the camera. So what if the sand doesn’t stretch as far as the eye can see? This petite patch is small, soft and perfectly formed. So lie back in the bay and bask in the Sardinian sunshine while the free-climbing fraternity take to the rocks above.
Is Goloritzé set to become a southerly extension of the well-heeled ritz and glitz of Costa Smeralda? Thankfully not, as the beauty of this blissful beach is partly down to the fact it’s only accessible by sea – unless you want to take a crack at a last-minute beach-body blitz by embarking on the strenuous two-hour hike to get here. Personally, we’re more of the exert-yourself-tanning types, so follow in our non-blistered footsteps and hop on a boat from the nearby bay of Cala Gonone (famed for its beachside limestone caves if you fancy a peek).
A word of warning: If you’re planning a day of bay hopping then Cala Goloritzé might not be the best place to start. We arrived mid-morning, fell in love on first paddle, and refused to leave until the sun had set.
