Beach of the Week 27.09.11

Surin Beach, Phuket, Thailand

Surin Beach, Phuket, Thailand

This week we’re dipping a toe into the world of the Super Luxe, and so for this issue’s Beach of the Week, we are after – dare we say it – a sort of X-factorish addition – a beach that comes with an almost ethereal buzz that represents an altogether different world, not just in the golden sands under foot but in the affluent air that surrounds you.

Situated on the western coast of Phuket, Surin Beach is a far departure from the hamburger-inspired economy holidayism that the region has seen a wee bit too much of lately. In fact, Surin couldn’t – figuratively-speaking – be further away, being a beach that sits in the middle of monstrously-named ‘Millionaire Mile’; an exclusive stretch of coastline that houses some of the world’s most affluent globetrotters and sunseekers. Rolling waves burst serenely onto Surin’s sandy shoreline, which, in turn, rises up to a thick wall of Thai forestry, stuffed with lavish mansions, infinity pools and sunloungers that come complete with guestlist and a bouncer.

Dine in beach shacks fit for a king, suck on cigars in fine wine bars and stay in your own manor of opulence, featuring, of course, a private chef, butler and full housekeeping staff. A trifling 150 million baht will secure you such a Beach Pad of Dreams. And before you protest in pension-busting agony, 150 million baht is not as much as it sounds… Phew!… It’s only £3,000, 000. Bargain.
