Imagine waking up each summers’ day to sunrise yoga, fresh smoothies and an agenda of meditation, workshops and feel-good music—sounds pretty good right? Festivals have come a long way from the cider-soaked yesteryear of smelly tents and greasy burger vans. Now you can spend your summer working on your yoga game, winding down in swimming lakes and saunas, snacking on farm-fresh organic treats and actually wake up feeling good, rather than just hungover. Here are some of our favourite wellness events to add to your 2017 festival calendar.
For three days, Balance transforms London’s Truman Brewery into an arena of clean eating and fitspo classes. The line-up includes the city’s top foodie celebrities and fitness headliners—from Triyoga and BOOM Cycle to Barry’s Bootcamp—and the schedule is rammed with classes for you to dip in and out of. Test your mettle at a Box HIIT, spin or barre class and then head to the live cooking theatre to pick up kitchen tips from the likes of Clean Eating Alice and more.
If you go down to the woods in Kent this July then you might stumble upon this new haven of fitness and music. Tucked away on the grounds of a country mansion, the line-up includes big hitters like Fierce Grace and Ministry of Sound, and you’ll be able to work out with wild runs, SUP yoga on the lake and spin classes, then chill in the forest spa or dance the night away to top DJs—all in a gorgeous forest setting.
Glastonbury Festival, Glastonbury
An oldie but goldie, this grande dame of the UK festival circuit is really like lots of different festivals all rolled into one, but its Green Fields are still one of the forefathers of the wellness festival. Head to the Healing Fields for tai chi, yoga, massages, dance and laughter. Or channel your inner native Indian in the Tipi Fields and pick up wise life lessons from the hippies and new agers that come time and time again.
Green Man, Brecon Beacons
The green theme and setting—tucked away in lush, pond-lined valley in the rural beauty of Wales—instantly gives off a zen vibe, but if you really want to go all out then beeline to the Nature Nurture area for meditation, shamanic healing, and more yoga. Or just hangout in the log-fired hot tubs with a glass of bubbly (it’s not all virtuous). For music lovers, the Green Man Rising stage often breaks new acts and this year the festival marks its 15th anniversary, so expect the celebrations to be amped up.
Soul Circus, Cotswolds
Some of the biggest names in yoga flock to this wellness haven where you can party at night in lush woodlands to live DJs and chill by day with every kind of yoga, gong baths, hot tubs and a mobile sauna. Gloucestershire’s finest organic fare and bio-dynamic wines head the menu and posh loos and showers come as standard, so no more gross toilet moments.
